Tenth Summer Stone

How unusual. The butterfly's middle looks like it has been painted with white-out or blotched with bleach.  Bright veined wing tips--one golden yellow, the other slightly more orange--look like separate entities touching opposite edges of a foreign achromatic mass. Perhaps this unusual coloring helps protect it from predators, confusing them, but it only served to get my attention. Sometimes there is beauty in imperfection.

Thanks, Connie, To be honest, I'm not really sure if it is a butterfly or moth but am guessing butterfly.

How weird...the butterfly, not your piece, which is fun. I like 'achromatic mass'.

Thanks, Margo.

Definitely some odd seeming coloration. Perhaps a mutation? Or the result of some sort of chemicals?
I is rather uniquely interesting though.

Arlee, I think it must be some sort of mutation. I've googled all over and found nothing.

We saw it in the butterfly house at the zoo in Stuttgart. Maybe I could contact someone there.

In looking through my daughter's pics today, I noticed she got a clearer shot. Maybe I will post that later.
